Open Deck Capacity Across the U.S. and Canada
Flatbed and open deck freight requires more than just a trailer — it requires carriers who know how to secure loads properly, understand permit requirements, and communicate proactively when conditions change. Book Freight arranges flatbed, step deck, and RGN capacity with carriers who have the equipment, experience, and compliance record to handle your freight without drama.
Whether you're shipping structural steel, heavy machinery, construction materials, or any cargo that loads from the top or sides, we source the right equipment and manage the move end to end.
Open Deck Equipment We Arrange
- Flatbed (48' and 53') — Standard open deck for steel, lumber, building materials, and general flatbed freight. Max legal weight typically 48,000 lbs on a 48' trailer.
- Step Deck / Drop Deck — Two-level trailer for freight too tall for a standard flatbed but not requiring a lowboy. Ideal for equipment, machinery, and tall industrial cargo.
- Removable Gooseneck (RGN) / Lowboy — Lowest deck height available for heavy equipment, large machinery, and oversized loads that can't clear bridge restrictions on a standard trailer.
- Double Drop / Stretch — Extended and low-profile trailers for exceptionally long or tall cargo requiring additional clearance and length.
- Conestoga / Rolling Tarp — Flatbed with a retractable tarp system for freight needing weather protection without full enclosure.
Securement & Compliance
- FMCSA Securement Standards — We work with carriers who follow 49 CFR Part 393 securement requirements on every load — proper tie-down count, edge protection, and blocking and bracing where required.
- Tarping Requirements — Steel, lumber, and other commodity-specific tarping needs are confirmed before dispatch. We don't leave this to chance at the pickup.
- Oversize / Overweight Flags — If your load exceeds legal dimensions or weight, we identify it upfront and coordinate permitting through our heavy haul process rather than discovering it at a weigh station.

How We Work
- Share your load details. Dimensions (L x W x H), weight, commodity, pickup and delivery locations, and any special requirements. The more detail upfront, the faster we can quote accurately and identify any permit needs.
- We source vetted open deck carriers. Carriers are screened for safety rating, open deck experience, proper equipment, and insurance before we put them on your load.
- We manage execution from dispatch to POD. Securement confirmation at pickup, proactive transit updates, and direct communication throughout — not just when something goes wrong.
What to Expect
- Fast quotes during business hours — most within 15–20 minutes
- Upfront identification of oversize or overweight issues before dispatch
- Carriers verified for open deck experience, not just general authority
- Direct contact with the person managing your freight — not a call center
- U.S. and Canadian coverage across all major open deck lanes
