Energy & Utility Freight Demands More Than a Truck
Power transformers weigh hundreds of thousands of pounds. Substation equipment has no substitute if it’s damaged in transit. Turbine components are irreplaceable on a project timeline. When utility infrastructure moves, it moves once — and it has to arrive intact, on schedule, and compliant with every permit and routing requirement along the way.
Book Freight works with utilities, power generation companies, energy contractors, and equipment manufacturers moving critical infrastructure across the U.S. We handle the planning, permitting, and execution that energy freight requires — from routine flatbed moves to complex multi-state transformer hauls.
Direct broker oversight from tender to POD. No call centers, no handoffs, no surprises on delivery day.
Energy & Utility Equipment We Move
- Power Transformers — Distribution and transmission transformers moving from manufacturers and repair facilities to substations and project sites. Among the most complex and high-value loads in the industry — route engineering, multi-axle transport, and permits required on every move.
- Substation Equipment — Switchgear, reactors, capacitor banks, and circuit breakers moving to active substation construction and upgrade projects. Often oversized and time-sequenced to construction milestones.
- Gas Turbines & Generators — Combustion turbines, steam turbines, and large generators for power plant construction and replacement. Heavy, oversized, and high-value with strict handling requirements.
- Wind Turbine Components — Nacelles, hubs, and tower sections for wind energy projects. Among the most logistically demanding moves in the industry — long, wide, and heavy simultaneously.
- Solar & Energy Storage Equipment — Inverters, racking systems, battery storage units, and solar infrastructure for utility-scale and commercial solar projects.
- Transmission Line Equipment — Steel poles, lattice towers, conductors, and hardware for transmission line construction and maintenance projects.
- Pipeline & Midstream Equipment — Compressors, metering equipment, valves, and pipe for gas transmission, distribution, and midstream infrastructure projects.
- Nuclear & Power Plant Components — Specialized components, replacement parts, and support equipment for nuclear and conventional power plant operations and outages.

How We Handle Energy Freight
- Transformer moves start with engineering, not a rate. Before quoting any transformer or heavy substation move, we review dimensions, weight, origin, destination, and route. Equipment selection, axle configuration, permit sequencing, and escort requirements are planned before dispatch — not discovered at the state line.
- We manage permits end to end. Multi-state oversize and overweight permits, utility line lift coordination, travel restriction management, and escort sourcing handled as part of the move. We don’t hand you a list of things to coordinate yourself.
- We protect high-value equipment. Carriers are vetted for equipment condition, securement practices, and experience with sensitive cargo before we tender energy freight. We don’t put a $5M transformer on a carrier we haven’t vetted.
- We communicate to outage and project schedules. Energy projects and outages run on tight windows. We provide direct status updates, confirm delivery appointments, and escalate immediately if anything changes — so your project team always knows where the equipment is.
Energy Sectors We Serve
- Electric utilities — transmission and distribution infrastructure, substation construction and upgrades
- Power generation — gas, coal, nuclear, and combined cycle plant construction and maintenance
- Renewable energy — wind, solar, and energy storage project construction and equipment delivery
- Oil, gas & midstream — pipeline construction, compressor stations, and processing facilities
- Energy equipment manufacturers — outbound freight from transformer, turbine, and generator manufacturers
- Energy contractors — construction and maintenance contractors moving equipment between projects and job sites
What Energy & Utility Shippers Get With Book Freight
