Machine Tools · Step Deck · RGN · Conestoga · Oversize

Freight brokerage for manufacturers moving production equipment, machine tools, fabricated steel, and oversize components — quoted off dimensions and lift points, not off a lane and a guess.

Manufacturing Freight Fails on Details, Not on Trucks

Finding a truck is the easy part. What sinks a manufacturing load is everything around it — a machine that’s 9’2” tall dispatched on a standard flatbed and running out of bridge clearance three states in. A carrier who shows up at two in the afternoon when the plant’s crane crew went home at noon. A press with precision-machined surfaces tarped by a driver who didn’t know what he was covering.

Book Freight works with manufacturers, machine tool dealers, fabricators, and industrial equipment builders moving freight that doesn’t fit the standard mold. We quote off dimensions, weight, and the receiving plant’s actual dock rules — so the right trailer shows up at a time the plant can take it.

Direct broker oversight from tender to POD. No call centers, no handoffs, no surprises at the gate.

Legal overall height in most states is 13’6”. Deck height is what decides whether your machine clears it.

Heavy Manufacturing Freight FAQ

What trailer does a CNC machining center ship on?
It comes down to height. Legal overall height is 13’6″ in most states and a standard flatbed deck sits around 5′, leaving roughly 8’6″ of cargo height. A machine taller than that goes on a step deck, or a double drop if it’s taller still. Weight matters too — anything over 48,000 lbs will likely need an overweight permit regardless of the trailer. Send crated dimensions and weight and we’ll tell you what it needs before we quote it.

Who loads and unloads the machine?
Loading and unloading happen at the plant on both ends — the driver isn’t a rigger and doesn’t carry the equipment or insurance to lift a machine off a deck. Most origin plants load with their own crane or forklift; if your receiving site can’t unload, have a rigging contractor set against the delivery appointment. Give us the window and the carrier will be there for it.

Can you handle oversize and overweight permits?
Yes. Oversize and overweight moves run through our heavy haul operation — state-by-state permitting, route surveys for height and bridge restrictions, travel curfews, and escort or pilot car requirements. All of it is worked before the load is dispatched, not after it’s stopped.

Can you pick up from several suppliers on one truck?
Yes. Multi-stop pickups are common on manufacturing freight and usually cheaper than running separate trucks. We need each site’s loading capability and hours, the weight and dimensions of each piece, and the delivery sequence up front — weight distribution across the deck has to be planned in advance, since the last piece on is the first piece off.

How do you protect machined surfaces in transit?
A Conestoga is usually the right answer. The rolling tarp system encloses the load without anyone dragging vinyl across a finished surface, and it stays side-loadable for crane work. On flatbed moves, securement is matched to the piece — edge protection under chains, blocking and bracing against shift, and dunnage anywhere the load contacts the deck.

We have a line down. How fast can you get a part moving?
Same day in most cases. Depending on size that’s a sprinter van, a straight truck, or team drivers running direct with no relay. Call (205) 855-6385 with the origin, destination, and dimensions and we’ll tell you what’s actually available right now.

Send the dimensions.
We’ll send the truck.
Give us the piece, the weight, the origin, and the plant’s receiving window. You’ll get capacity, pricing, and a realistic transit — from the person actually managing the load.
